Job Description: The Quantitative Trading Accountant (Commodities and International Tax Specialist) is responsible for managing the accounting operations, financial reporting, and tax compliance within a quantitative trading firm, with a specific focus on commodities trading and hedging. The role requires expertise in international commodities hedging, tax management, and knowledge of accounting standards across multiple jurisdictions, including the US, UK, Singapore, and Hong Kong. This position ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with global regulations, and provides insights to optimize trading strategies.
Responsibilities:
Maintain the firm’s general ledger, with a focus on international commodities trading and hedging transactions.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, and local accounting standards in the US, UK, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Manage tax compliance for multiple jurisdictions, including corporate tax, VAT/GST, and withholding tax requirements.
Oversee the accounting and financial reporting for hedging activities, including the valuation of derivatives, mark-to-market adjustments, and hedge effectiveness testing.
Assist in developing and implementing tax-efficient structures for global trading activities.
Collaborate with the trading team to optimize strategies from an accounting and tax perspective, including advising on the tax implications of trading decisions.
Conduct financial analysis to support the assessment of hedging effectiveness and trading profitability.
Ensure timely and accurate filing of financial statements, tax returns, and other regulatory reports.
Monitor and manage exposure to currency and commodity risks, including the accounting for foreign exchange gains and losses.
Support internal and external audits, providing documentation for hedging activities and international tax matters.
Automate and optimize accounting processes through technology solutions, including integration with trading platforms and financial systems.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent certification required.
5+ years of experience in accounting, with a focus on commodities trading, hedging, and international tax management.
In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and local accounting standards in the US, UK, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Strong understanding of commodities markets, hedging instruments (e.g., futures, options, swaps), and risk management strategies.
Experience with international tax planning and compliance, including transfer pricing and cross-border transactions.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and financial analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL). Experience with trading platforms and ERP systems is a plus.
Familiarity with automated accounting processes or programming languages (e.g., Python, VBA) is advantageous.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with attention to detail.
Willingness to stay up-to-date on changes in international accounting and tax regulations.
